A low-pressure area formed over the Bay of Bengal on Monday morning, prompting Bangladesh’s Meteorological Department to issue Local Warning Signal No. 3 for four maritime ports.
According to the Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD), the system is not expected to intensify into a depression. While it may bring a slight increase in rainfall over the next couple of days, forecasters say it is unlikely to produce rainfall comparable to the heavy downpours experienced over the past eight days.
In its latest weather advisory, the BMD said the low-pressure area has developed over the north Bay of Bengal and the adjoining West Bengal–Odisha coast of India. Its influence could trigger squally winds over the northern Bay and nearby coastal areas of Bangladesh.
As a precaution, the meteorological office has instructed the ports of Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Mongla, and Payra to hoist Local Warning Signal No. 3.
