The government has announced a special arrangement for candidates who were unable to sit for any subject in the ongoing Higher Secondary Certificate (HSC) and equivalent examinations due to adverse weather or other unavoidable circumstances.

At the same time, those responsible for errors in the Physics First Paper question have been temporarily suspended, while Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon reiterated that affected candidates will receive full marks for the flawed questions.

The minister made the announcement in a statement under Rule 300 in the Jatiya Sangsad on Wednesday (July 15).

According to the statement, a total of 1,270,583 candidates are taking part in the HSC and equivalent examinations at 2,697 centres across the country.

Due to heavy rainfall and severe weather, examinations scheduled in five districts under the Chattogram Education Board—Chattogram, Cox’s Bazar, Khagrachhari, Rangamati and Bandarban—were postponed.

Outside the Chattogram Board, some candidates in other districts also failed to attend scheduled examinations because of adverse weather and other unavoidable reasons.

The minister said candidates who missed any subject in the ongoing HSC and equivalent examinations due to inclement weather or other valid unavoidable reasons will be allowed to sit for that subject using the same question paper on the date and time already fixed by the Ministry of Education for the postponed Chattogram Board examinations.

“As the HSC examination is a crucial milestone in students’ lives, this special opportunity has been provided on humanitarian grounds,” the statement said.

The minister also confirmed that the individuals responsible for preparing the erroneous Physics First Paper question have already been temporarily suspended.

He further reiterated that candidates affected by the mistakes in Questions 6 and 7 of the Physics First Paper will be awarded full marks for those questions.
