A 22-year-old bakery worker was allegedly beaten to death after being locked inside a warehouse in Raipura upazila Jangalia Shibpur market on Wednesday night, police said.
The victim, Nasir Mia, a resident of North Bakharnagar union, worked at a local bakery. According to police, local residents, and family members, Nasir had gone to the market in the evening when he was locked inside a warehouse and severely assaulted by a group of individuals.
He was later rescued in a critically injured condition and taken to Raipura upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared him dead.
Authorities said the motive behind the killing and the identities of those involved remain unclear. “We are investigating the incident and trying to identify those responsible,” said Officer-in-Charge of Raipura Police Station, Mojibur Rahman.
Health officer Jannatul Nayeem confirmed that the victim was brought to the hospital dead, with multiple injury marks on his body. The body has been sent to Narsingdi Sadar Hospital morgue for autopsy.
Family members said they were informed by phone that Nasir had been beaten by some people at the market and left on the road. They rushed to the scene and found him unconscious before taking him to the hospital with the help of locals.
The victim’s family has demanded swift identification and punishment of those responsible.
Police said the investigation is ongoing, and further details will be determined after gathering evidence and statements from witnesses.
