Police have arrested Tanim Reza Bappi, who is alleged to be the second-in-command of notorious crime figure Subrata Bain.
Bappi was arrested during a joint operation by Motijheel Police Station and the Detective Branch (DB) in the Kamalapur area of the capital at around 8:00 pm on Friday. He has since been placed in the custody of Motijheel Police.
Motijheel Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md Kamruzzaman Talukder said Bappi is facing multiple cases filed with different police stations under the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
He said another suspect, Rakibul Islam Bhuiyan, also known as Rizon, was arrested during the same operation.
According to police sources, Bappi is alleged to have been one of the key operators overseeing Subrata Bain’s illegal arms network.
Subrata Bain was arrested by the Bangladesh Army in Kushtia in May 2025.
Police allege that after his arrest, Bappi and his associates continued various criminal activities to maintain their influence in the underworld.
