The government will deploy 5,000 armed integrated Ansar members at 500 upazila health complexes across the country to strengthen security and ensure uninterrupted healthcare services for the public, the force announced on Wednesday.
The deployment initiative was unveiled at a programme held at the headquarters of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP), where senior officials briefed newly assigned personnel on their responsibilities and operational guidelines.
Speaking as the chief guest, Additional Director General of Bangladesh Ansar and VDP Brigadier General Mamunur Rashid said the move is part of the government’s broader national security and public service strategy.
Under the plan, each upazila health complex will receive a 10-member Ansar team comprising one platoon commander, one assistant platoon commander and eight personnel. Members will work in shifts to maintain round-the-clock security coverage.
Mamunur Rashid said the deployed personnel will be responsible for maintaining discipline at health facilities and helping ensure uninterrupted services for patients.
He instructed members to take firm action against brokering, illegal ambulance operations, drug-related offences and other irregularities in and around health complexes.
The additional director general said Ansar personnel have already earned public confidence through their performance in specialised government hospitals and healthcare institutions and urged them to uphold the same standard in their new assignments.
He warned that any involvement in unethical practices or criminal activities would result in strict legal action.
Mamunur Rashid also said the force has introduced a modern software-based screening system in recruitment and deployment processes to enhance transparency, accountability and professionalism.
He expressed optimism that maintaining discipline and operational efficiency would further expand overseas employment opportunities for Ansar members in countries including Japan, the United Arab Emirates and Moldova.
Officials said the deployment is expected to address long-standing security concerns among doctors and healthcare workers at the field level, curb the influence of brokers, improve patient safety, safeguard government assets and strengthen overall discipline in healthcare services.
Among those present at the programme were Ansar-VDP Deputy Director General (Training) Md Rafiqul Islam, Director (Integration) Md Abdul Majid, Dhaka District Commandant Md Rasheduzzaman and other senior officials.
