A massive fire tore through a residential area in southern Norway, destroying more than 100 homes and forcing hundreds of residents to evacuate, authorities and local media reported.
The blaze broke out in a townhouse in the city of Drammen at around 3:30 pm on Friday, according to police.
Fueled by dry conditions, the fire spread rapidly to adjacent homes before reaching nearby forested areas, intensifying the scale of destruction.
Firefighters continued battling the flames into Saturday morning, working to bring the situation under control and prevent further spread.
Hundreds of displaced residents were moved to an emergency evacuation centre, Norway’s public broadcaster NRK reported. Despite the widespread damage, police confirmed that no one has been reported missing so far.
The cause of the fire remains unknown and is under investigation.
Drammen, located about 34 kilometres southwest of the capital Oslo, has witnessed one of the most devastating residential fires in recent years, highlighting growing concerns over fire risks during dry weather conditions.
