The annual Bangladesh-US joint military exercise, ‘Tiger Lightning 26,’ officially began on Sunday, with more than 160 military personnel from the two countries taking part.
The information was announced in a statement issued by the US Embassy in Dhaka on Saturday.
According to the statement, the exercise aims to further strengthen bilateral military cooperation and enhance the two forces’ ability to operate together in real-world scenarios.
This year’s exercise will include training on jungle operations, counterterrorism missions, and tactical combat casualty care.
The programme is expected to provide participants from both countries with greater insight into each other’s capabilities, procedures and operational practices.
The embassy said Tiger Lightning 26 is part of the US Army Pacific’s Theater Army Campaign Plan and its security cooperation programme.
It is designed to strengthen professional relationships, improve operational readiness and reinforce coordination and interoperability between the US Army and the Bangladesh Army.
Tiger Lightning was launched in 2017 as a bilateral military exercise between the US Army and the Bangladesh Armed Forces.
Although it was temporarily suspended during the Covid-19 pandemic, it has been held annually for the past five years.
The exercise will combine classroom instruction with field training, culminating in a full-scale field training exercise.
