The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) on Sunday submitted its audited annual income and expenditure statement to the Election Commission (EC), reporting a surplus of nearly Tk 6.94 crore for the 2025 calendar year.
A BNP delegation handed over the audit report to EC Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon.
According to the financial statement, the party earned Tk 22.19 crore in 2025 while spending Tk 15.26 crore, leaving a surplus of Tk 6.93 crore.
Including an opening balance of Tk 21.13 crore, the party now holds Tk 28.04 crore in bank deposits and Tk 2.8 lakh in cash. Its total fund currently stands at Tk 28.07 crore.
BNP Treasurer and State Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat said the party’s income mainly came from members’ subscriptions, donations from well-wishers and the sale of party nomination forms.
He said the expenditure covered organisational and political activities throughout the year, the purchase of vehicles for party use, publication of campaign materials and posters, maintenance of central and local party offices, salaries of officials and employees, and financial assistance for distressed party leaders and activists.
After submitting the report, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said the party had complied with all legal procedures in preparing and submitting the accounts.
He said the annual financial disclosure reflected the party’s commitment to accountability and transparency in democratic politics.
“Political parties elected by the people should remain accountable by disclosing their sources of income and expenditure,” Rizvi said, adding that financial transparency was an important element in strengthening democratic institutions.
Under the Representation of the People Order (RPO), all registered political parties are required to submit their audited financial statements for the previous calendar year to the Election Commission by July 31 each year.
The EC has the authority to cancel the registration of any party that fails to submit its audit reports for three consecutive years.
