The Bangladesh Meteorological Department (BMD) has forecast widespread rainfall across all divisions of the country over the next 24 hours from Monday morning.
According to the Met Office, light to moderate rain or thundershowers accompanied by temporary gusty winds are expected in most areas of Rajshahi, Rangpur, Dhaka, Mymensingh, Barishal, Chattogram and Sylhet divisions, and in many parts of Khulna. Isolated areas may experience moderately heavy to very heavy rainfall.
The highest rainfall in the 24 hours until 6:00 am Monday was recorded at Dimla in Rangpur, measuring 101 mm.
Temperatures are likely to dip slightly across the country, both during the day and at night, as monsoon conditions strengthen.
Meteorologists said the axis of the monsoon trough stretches across northern India—covering Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, West Bengal and Assam—and extends into northern Bangladesh, with one of its associated troughs reaching the northwestern Bay of Bengal.
The monsoon remains active over northern regions of the country, fairly active elsewhere, and moderate over the North Bay, contributing to the ongoing wet weather pattern.
