A mobile court has sealed off DMT Safeway Hospital in Sylhet city for allegedly operating without a valid licence and other required government approvals.
The hospital, located in the Mirzajangal area, was sealed on Monday following a drive led by Executive Magistrate Sihab Bin Amin.
Officials said a mobile court inspected the facility on Sunday and asked its authorities to produce valid licences and other necessary documents.
As the hospital failed to do so, it was given 24 hours to submit the required papers.
However, the authorities failed to provide any valid government approval or licence within the deadline, prompting the administration to take action.
A notice was subsequently placed at the hospital’s main entrance ordering the suspension of all activities until further notice.
Executive Magistrate Sihab Bin Amin said the institution had been operating without valid authorisation.
“In the interest of public safety and in accordance with government regulations, the hospital will remain sealed until further instructions.
No patient admission or treatment will be allowed during this period,” he said.
The hospital had previously faced allegations related to patient deaths allegedly caused by medical negligence.
It was also fined Tk 5,000 during a drive in January this year.
