AI-powered shopping is rapidly gaining momentum, with analysts forecasting that AI-assisted e-commerce could grow into a $7 trillion market by 2030 as consumers increasingly turn to AI shopping assistants for product discovery and purchasing decisions.

The growing adoption of AI in online shopping is also accelerating retail media click growth, particularly in high-consideration categories such as business products and consumer electronics, according to industry KPI data from Skai.

A 2025 Bazaarvoice survey found that 62% of AI users worldwide now use AI-powered tools while shopping. Meanwhile, research by Salsify showed that 17% of shoppers, including one in five Gen Z consumers, have purchased a product based on a recommendation from an AI assistant or chatbot.

Consumers are increasingly integrating AI into their shopping journeys, especially when buying products that require extensive research before purchase.

Industry analysts say AI is having the greatest impact in high-consideration categories, where shoppers typically compare features, specifications, prices and reviews before making a decision.

AI-powered search, personalised recommendations and virtual shopping assistants are helping consumers navigate these choices more efficiently.

The strong growth in retail media clicks across business, electronics and health categories suggests AI is improving product discovery while enabling advertisers to reach shoppers with stronger purchase intent.

For marketers, the expanding use of AI across retail search, discovery and advertising is expected to boost engagement in research-intensive categories, where personalised recommendations play a greater role in influencing buying decisions.

Analysts say AI-powered retail media is becoming increasingly valuable not only for driving product discovery but also for shaping consumer purchase decisions at critical moments in the shopping journey.
