Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr Khalilur Rahman on Wednesday invited US Secretary of State Marco Rubio to visit Bangladesh during a bilateral meeting held on the sidelines of the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Manila.
According to a Foreign Ministry press release, the two leaders discussed ways to further strengthen Bangladesh-US relations and exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual interest.
US Secretary Rubio congratulated Khalilur on his election as President of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), a position he is set to assume later this year.
In response, Khalilur thanked Rubio for the congratulations and formally invited him to pay an official visit to Bangladesh.
Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humaiun Kobir, US Ambassador to India and US President’s Special Envoy to South and Central Asia Sergio Gor were also present at the meeting.
The talks took place as Dhaka and Washington continue efforts to expand cooperation across a range of areas, reflecting the growing engagement between the two countries.
