Tamil superstar and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Thalapathy Vijay’s much-awaited film ‘Jana Nayagan’ has set a new record in advance ticket sales.
According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 15.09 crore from first-day advance bookings alone. The movie is scheduled to hit theatres on Thursday, with only two days left before its release.
‘Jana Nayagan’ is being seen as Vijay’s final film before he shifts his full focus to politics.
According to The Indian Express, advance ticket bookings surged as the release date approached. Although the initial response after bookings opened on July 19 was modest, demand increased significantly over the following days.
Tamil Nadu leads state-wise advance bookings with earnings of around Rs 6.74 crore, followed by Karnataka with Rs 4.88 crore and Kerala with Rs 1.80 crore.
Industry figures show that ‘Jana Nayagan’ is now closing in on the advance booking records of Vijay’s previous blockbusters, ‘Leo’ and ‘The Greatest of All Time’.
