A senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader has warned that the country has entered a “new phase of deterrence,” saying any US attempt to strike Iran at a low cost would carry consequences far beyond the battlefield.
In a post on X, Ali Akbar Velayati said any assumption that Iran could be attacked without significant repercussions would be a serious miscalculation.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is in a new phase of deterrence,” Velayati wrote.
He warned that military action against Iran could disrupt global energy markets and affect the wider world economy.
“The White House should know that by threatening Iran, mobilising regional allies and activating the European lobby, it will not achieve greater security and stability; rather, it will globalise the consequences of its mistakes,” he said.
Iranian leaders have repeatedly warned that the conflict could widen if the United States intensifies its military attacks.
The warning came as regional tensions continued to escalate.
In recent days, power facilities and water-desalination plants in Kuwait have reportedly come under repeated attacks, prompting condemnation from Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries.
Meanwhile, Iran’s Health Ministry said 53 Iranian civilians had been killed since late June, highlighting the growing human cost of the conflict.
