TEHRAN: A senior adviser to Iran’s Supreme Leader has declared that the country has entered “a new phase of deterrence,” warning that any US military action against Iran would carry consequences extending far beyond the battlefield.
In a post on X, Ali Akbar Velayati said the belief that Iran could be attacked without facing significant repercussions was a serious miscalculation.
“The Islamic Republic of Iran is in a new phase of deterrence,” Velayati wrote, adding that any military strike against Iran could disrupt global energy markets and the broader world economy.
He also warned that the United States would not achieve greater security by threatening Iran, rallying regional allies, or seeking support from European countries.
“The White House should know that by threatening Iran, mobilising regional allies and activating the European lobby, it will not achieve greater security and stability. Rather, it will globalise the consequences of its mistakes,” he said.
Velayati’s remarks come amid heightened tensions between Tehran and Washington, with both sides exchanging threats as the conflict continues to escalate.
