Pakistani singer Atif Aslam has announced that his long-awaited new album, Subah Aaina, will be released on July 31, as he prepares to perform in Dhaka for the first time in years.
Speaking at a press conference at Crowne Plaza Dhaka Airport on Thursday, Atif shared details about the upcoming album and spoke about his future music plans, his love for Bangladeshi audiences, local cuisine and fellow musicians.
The singer arrived in Dhaka late Wednesday night ahead of his concert, “Atif Aslam Live in Dhaka,” scheduled for Friday at the Cricketers’ Academy Ground in Purbachal.
Atif said he had spent the past several years focusing on playback singing, concerts and recording projects, leaving little opportunity to release his own original compositions.
“I’ve been singing mostly for films, but for a long time I’ve felt a responsibility to release the songs I’ve written and composed myself. That’s why I’m finally doing it,” he said. “Insha’Allah, I plan to release one album every year from now on.”
The eight-track album, Subah Aaina, has been in the making for nearly eight years. Atif said he collaborated with musicians and producers including Shiraz Uppal, Ahsan Parvez Mehdi, Raaj, and others on the project.
Asked whether he would perform any songs from the new album at Friday’s concert, Atif said he would wait until after its official release.
“No, I won’t sing the new songs before the album is released. After it comes out, I’ll return again, Insha’Allah,” he said.
Speaking about the Dhaka concert, the singer said his first wish was for clear weather, though he believed rain would only add to the atmosphere if it occurred.
He also hinted that this year’s performance would feature a different and more engaging experience than his previous shows.
