The Bangladesh Red Crescent Society (BDRCS) on Thursday handed over more than 40,000 Dengue NS1 Rapid Diagnostic Test kits to the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) to strengthen the country’s capacity to detect and respond to the ongoing dengue outbreak.
The test kits were procured with support from the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), the Swiss Red Cross and the Danish Red Cross as part of efforts to enhance Bangladesh’s dengue preparedness and response.
BDRCS Chairman Barrister Md Abdus Salam formally handed over the diagnostic kits to Professor Dr Halimur Rashid, Director of Non-Communicable Disease Control at the DGHS, at a ceremony held at the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society headquarters in the capital.
The rapid diagnostic kits are expected to help health authorities identify dengue infections at an early stage, enabling timely treatment and improving patient management as dengue cases continue to rise across the country.
Speaking at the event, officials highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts between humanitarian organisations and government agencies in strengthening public health services and responding effectively to vector-borne diseases.
Among those present were BDRCS Vice Chairman Professor Dr Md Rafiqul Kabir, Treasurer Dr Abu Md Mofakharul Islam (Rana), Secretary General Dr Kabir M Ashraf Alam, Director of Health Brigadier General (Retd) Dr S M Humayun Kabir, along with senior officials from the DGHS and the Bangladesh Red Crescent Society.
