Dhaka: Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman, has said that while Jamaat-e-Islami is not a party of “angels” and its members are not free from mistakes, wrongdoing has no place within the organization.
Speaking at the Dhaka District Rukon Conference held at the Diploma Engineers Institute in Kakrail on Friday, Dr. Rahman said, “We are human beings, and we make mistakes. But we have made one thing clear: injustice and Jamaat-e-Islami cannot go together.”
He acknowledged that members of the party can commit errors, misconduct, or even crimes, and called on citizens to report any wrongdoing by Jamaat leaders or activists.
“We promise that if anyone points out our mistakes or crimes, we will take corrective action, God willing,” he said.
Addressing party members, Dr. Rahman stressed the importance of maintaining high ethical standards, saying those who represent the party must exercise greater caution.
“If you wear white clothes, you must be even more careful. Very careful. There is no compromise on morality in Jamaat-e-Islami,” he said.
He added that members responsible for minor violations would be given an opportunity to reform and, if appropriate, return to their responsibilities. However, he warned that serious misconduct would leave the party with no choice but to take strict disciplinary action.
“The message is for all of us, including myself: remain alert and cautious. Be careful—everyone must be careful,” he said.
