At least 15 people have been killed in Russian attacks across Ukraine, including 10 people in a ballistic missile strike on a drone exhibition near the capital Kyiv, according to a BBC report published Saturday.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said around 100 people were injured in the daytime strike on the exhibition, which was attended by prominent figures from Ukraine’s defence sector.
Five more people were killed in the eastern city of Sloviansk after a Russian glide bomb struck the area, while military officials confirmed the deaths of two people in the northern city of Sumy early Saturday.
Zelenskyy warned on Friday evening that Russia was preparing another large-scale missile attack that could take place within the next 48 hours.
The latest attacks came a day after a Ukrainian strike on the Russian city of Kirov, located more than 1,000 kilometres (600 miles) behind the front line, killed six people and injured 26 others.
Ukraine also reportedly attacked warehouses belonging to Wildberries, Russia’s largest online retailer.
Following the strike near Kyiv, concerns were initially raised over the safety of Serhii Beskrestnov, an adviser to Ukraine’s Defence Ministry also known as “Flash”, and Lyuba Shipovych, who has been involved in developing technology for the Ukrainian military.
Both later confirmed on social media that they were unharmed.
Beskrestnov said he had stayed away from the event because of security concerns.
Yurii Ihnat, a spokesperson for Ukraine’s Air Force, told Ukrainian media that Russia used three ballistic missiles in the attack, of which only one was intercepted.
