Indian actress Hina Khan has shared how spirituality became a vital source of strength during her battle with breast cancer, helping her navigate the emotional and physical toll of treatment.
Known for her role in the popular TV series Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Hina revealed in June 2024 that she had been diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer.
Speaking on Soha Ali Khan’s podcast All About Her in December 2025, she described the experience as one of the most challenging periods of her life.
The actress opened up about the visible and emotional impact of chemotherapy, including weight gain, hair loss and losing her eyelashes. She admitted that coming to terms with these changes was deeply difficult.
“I put on a lot of weight. My body changed. I lost my hair. That’s one blow, which is very hard,” she said, recalling how confronting her reflection became an emotional struggle.
Despite the hardships, Hina said the unwavering support of her family, along with her faith, helped her remain resilient. She emphasized that embracing spirituality transformed her outlook and gave her the strength to cope.
“I have always believed that everything in life is temporary. Physical appearance changes. Vanity affects you, but sanity should replace it,” she said.
Encouraging others facing similar battles, she highlighted the importance of surrounding oneself with positivity—through loved ones, meditation, or spiritual practices.
“Especially spirituality. It has changed me,” she added.
Hina also reflected on the realities of chemotherapy, describing the first week after each session as the most physically demanding, often marked by intense nerve pain.
“It was tough. Really tough. Those days were extremely hard,” she said, noting that while medication eased the pain, it never fully went away.
However, the following weeks often brought relief, allowing her to regain some normalcy and continue activities she enjoyed.
Rather than seeing cancer as an end, Hina said she chose to view it as a temporary phase—one that strengthened her determination to keep fighting and appreciate life’s better days.
