The Bangladesh Association of Software and Information Services (BASIS) has announced a new schedule for its postponed biennial election for the 2026-2028 term, with voting set to take place on September 26 following months of disputes over the voter list and legal proceedings.
The revised election schedule was announced on June 30 by the BASIS Election Board. The schedule was signed by Election Board Chairman Tania Islam and members- Mohammad Zakir Hossain and Nasrin Sultana.
Under the new timetable, members will elect an 11-member Executive Council comprising one president, one senior vice-president, one vice-president (Administration), one vice-president (Finance) and seven directors for the 2026-2028 term.
The election was originally scheduled for June 27. Preparations, including nomination submission, publication of the voter list and announcement of candidates, had already begun.
However, the election process was suspended following allegations that eligible members had been excluded from the voter list, objections over the electoral process, a decision by the Ministry of Commerce and a subsequent court order.
According to the revised schedule, members will be allowed to renew their membership and clear annual subscriptions and other dues through July 27.
A preliminary voter list will be published on August 6, while the final voter list will be released on August 13 and 14 after the disposal of objections.
Nomination papers will be collected and submitted between August 14 and 20. Following scrutiny, appeals and their disposal, the final list of candidates will be published on September 5.
Polling will be held uninterrupted from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm on Saturday, September 26. Vote counting will begin immediately after polling ends, and the results will be announced the same day.
If any appeals are filed against the election results, the Election Board will dispose of them before publishing a revised final result, if necessary, on October 7.
The Election Board said it reserves the authority to amend or revise the election schedule if circumstances require. All election-related notices and updates will be published on the BASIS notice board, website and members’ communication channels.
The BASIS election is considered significant for Bangladesh’s software, IT services, startup and digital business ecosystem, as the trade body represents one of the country’s leading associations for the information and communication technology sector.
