India has responded with measured diplomacy to questions surrounding the recent appointment of two press officials at the Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi, emphasizing cooperation over controversy.
During a weekly media briefing in New Delhi on Friday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India is aware of the new appointments and looks forward to working closely with Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi to strengthen bilateral ties.
His remarks came in response to a journalist who raised concerns about the past social media activity of the newly appointed press officers, alleging that they had previously shared anti-India and controversial content.
“We have taken note of the appointments and have been informed accordingly,” Jaiswal said. “We look forward to engaging with the High Commission here to further advance our relationship.”
India’s response reflects a careful balancing act—acknowledging concerns without allowing them to overshadow broader diplomatic priorities. Relations between India and Bangladesh have historically been shaped by strategic cooperation in trade, security, and regional stability.
Analysts say such statements signal New Delhi’s intent to keep communication channels open, even amid occasional political sensitivities.
At the same briefing, Jaiswal was also asked whether India had any information regarding a potential visit by the U.S. Ambassador to Bangladesh to Dhaka.
He responded that the Indian government currently has “no information” regarding the visit or its purpose, indicating that the matter remains outside New Delhi’s immediate diplomatic purview.
Questions were also raised about reports that Narendra Modi had invited Bangladesh’s Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to attend the upcoming BRICS Summit 2026 scheduled to be held in New Delhi this September.
Jaiswal declined to comment directly, saying he would address the issue at a later time.
