35 killed in deadly Syria bus collision

26 July 2026 02:35 Updated: 26 July 2026 02:35

The death toll from a collision between two passenger buses in Syria’s central-eastern desert region has risen to 35, according to state media.

State news agency SANA, citing a Health Ministry official, reported on Saturday that at least 30 others were injured in the crash. Earlier reports had put the death toll at 19.

The Interior Ministry said one of the buses was carrying a number of security personnel, though it did not specify how many were among the dead or injured.

Emergency teams rushed to the scene to rescue survivors and transport the injured to nearby hospitals, while authorities launched an investigation into the cause of the crash.

Road accidents remain a frequent occurrence in Syria, where years of conflict have left many highways and transport infrastructure in poor condition. Officials have yet to release further details about the victims or the circumstances surrounding the collision.
