A Dhaka court on Sunday deferred the hearing on charge framing in the murder case of truck driver Md. Hossain, filed over the anti-discrimination student movement, until August 13. The case names ousted former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and 33 others as accused.
Judge Rabiul Alam of Dhaka’s Special Judge Court-4 passed the order after both the prosecution and defense sought additional time.
Defense lawyer Golam Moeinuddin Chishti said the prosecution requested a postponement because one of the arrested accused, Forkan, was not present in court. Defense lawyers also sought more time, prompting the court to reschedule the hearing.
According to the case documents, truck driver Md. Hossain was shot dead on July 19, 2024, in the Chand Udyan area of Mohammadpur during the anti-discrimination student movement. He was returning home after parking his truck at Gabtoli when he was struck by gunfire and died at the scene.
Hossain’s mother, Rina Begum, filed the murder case with Mohammadpur Police Station on August 31, 2024. On November 23, 2025, the investigating officer, Sub-Inspector Akramuzzaman, submitted the charge sheet against Sheikh Hasina and 33 others.
Court records show that 20 of the accused, including Sheikh Hasina, are currently fugitives, and arrest warrants were issued against them on January 26 this year.
Among the absconding accused are former Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport Minister Obaidul Quader, former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, former Foreign Minister Hasan Mahmud, former Minister Jahangir Kabir Nanak, Bangladesh Chhatra League President Saddam Hossain, and General Secretary Sheikh Wali Asif Inan.
Former State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak and former lawmaker Sadek Khan are among four accused currently in custody, while 10 others are out on bail.
