Former President Mohammed Shahabuddin left Bangabhaban for his Gulshan residence with his family on Sunday afternoon.
According to Bangabhaban and government sources, Shahabuddin departed the presidential palace at around 2:24pm.
Under existing rules, a former president may stay at Bangabhaban for up to one month after leaving office if he wishes. However, Shahabuddin began preparations to move out soon after submitting his resignation.
His personal belongings had been transferred to his Gulshan residence over the past few days, and cleaning and renovation work at the house had already been completed.
Shahabuddin stepped down from the presidency on Friday citing health reasons. In his resignation letter, he mentioned suffering from heart disease, high blood pressure, diabetes and kidney complications.
He also said he developed autonomic neuropathy after undergoing bypass surgery, causing him to occasionally lose consciousness for short periods.
Shahabuddin took oath as the country’s 22nd president on April 24, 2023.
