Bangladesh and the International Centre for Integrated Mountain Development, ICIMOD, have reaffirmed their commitment to boosting climate resilience, managing transboundary rivers, and improving regional environmental governance.
The pledge came during a bilateral meeting in Bangkok between Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintoo and ICIMOD Director General Pema Gyamtsho, according to a press release issued Thursday
Gyamtsho praised Bangladesh’s continued engagement and stressed the need for stronger regional cooperation to tackle challenges in glacier-fed river systems.
He called for an integrated transboundary action plan for shared water resources and requested Bangladesh’s support for ICIMOD’s mid-term review and strategic planning.
To strengthen institutional ties, ICIMOD proposed naming the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change as its National Focal Point in Bangladesh.
Mintoo assured continued support for all ICIMOD initiatives, including joining the organisation’s Board Meeting next September and helping implement its medium-term work plan.
