The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday began preparing an inventory of valuables kept at a flat owned by former army officer Major General (dismissed) Ziaul Ahsan in Mirpur DOHS, in line with a court order.
An ACC team, accompanied by an executive magistrate, started the inventory process in the morning.
ACC Deputy Director Md Akhtarul Islam said the operation is being led by Deputy Director Md Hafizul Islam, with the participation of an executive magistrate.
This follows a similar operation conducted on 20 July at Ziaul Ahsan’s duplex apartment in the Jalsiri Housing Project in Narayanganj.
According to the ACC, that raid uncovered a range of valuable assets, including white gold, jewellery, furniture, electronic appliances, decorative items and other household belongings.
To ensure proper management of Ziaul Ahsan’s seized properties, a court on 27 January appointed the relevant deputy commissioners and the Public Works Department (PWD) as receivers of assets confiscated in his name and in the names of related persons.
Earlier, on 24 April last year, the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court ordered the attachment of Ziaul Ahsan’s land, houses and flats worth nearly Tk180 million, and froze nine bank accounts following an ACC petition.
The ACC filed a case against Ziaul Ahsan on 23 January 2025, accusing him of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income and laundering money.
Ziaul Ahsan most recently served as Director General of the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC).
He was dismissed from service after the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government and was arrested in the Khilkhet area of Dhaka on 15 August 2024. He is currently in jail.
