bKash has introduced a series of enhanced security measures for its Card to bKash Add Money service, aiming to make digital transactions more secure while ensuring a smoother experience for customers.
The country’s largest mobile financial service provider said the new features apply to Add Money transactions made from Visa, Mastercard and American Express cards to bKash accounts.
Under the updated system, customers using the Card to bKash Add Money service for the first time must save their payment card in the bKash app before they can continue using the service. The requirement does not apply to cards that have already been saved in the app.
As part of the new security protocol, users will also have to complete biometric verification while saving their card. The process involves matching a live selfie with the photograph on the National Identity (NID) card that was submitted during registration of the customer’s bKash wallet. The company said the additional verification is designed to prevent unauthorised access and strengthen identity authentication.
Customers will also be required to complete an initial Add Money transaction of Tk 500 during the card registration process. Once the first transaction is successfully completed, the saved card will become available for regular Add Money transactions after a 24-hour waiting period. A maximum of five payment cards can be linked to a single bKash account.
The Card to bKash Add Money service has become an increasingly popular digital payment option, enabling customers to transfer funds instantly from their debit or credit cards to their mobile wallets without visiting a bank branch or agent. The service supports cards issued under the Visa, Mastercard and American Express networks.
Money added through the service can be used across the bKash ecosystem, including online and in-store shopping, utility bill payments, mobile recharges, savings schemes, insurance premium payments, merchant payments and other financial services available on the platform.
The latest move comes as digital financial services in Bangladesh continue to expand rapidly, accompanied by increasing efforts from service providers and regulators to strengthen cybersecurity and combat fraud. Financial institutions have been introducing stronger identity verification, transaction monitoring and customer authentication measures to safeguard users as digital payments become more widespread.
bKash said it has been investing continuously in advanced security technologies and working closely with banks, international card networks and other ecosystem partners to improve customer protection. The company believes the newly introduced safeguards will reduce the risk of fraudulent transactions while making digital payments more reliable.
The enhanced security measures are expected to reinforce customer confidence in mobile financial services at a time when digital transactions are growing steadily across the country. By combining biometric verification with secure card registration, bKash aims to provide a safer and more seamless experience for millions of users while supporting Bangladesh’s broader transition towards a cashless digital economy.
