Ugochi Daniels, Deputy Director General (Operations) of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), arrived in Dhaka on Saturday for a four-day official visit aimed at strengthening cooperation on migration governance, labour migration, and humanitarian issues.
She was received at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport by IOM Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Iori Kato, United Nations Interim Resident Coordinator in Bangladesh Carol Flore-Smereczniak, and IOM Bangladesh Chief of Mission Dr. Laura Tom Bond.
According to an IOM statement, Daniels is scheduled to hold meetings with senior government officials, representatives of United Nations agencies, development partners, and communities supported by the organization.
Her visit will include participation in the launch of Bangladesh’s National Action Plan 2026–2030 under the Global Compact for Safe, Orderly and Regular Migration (GCM).
Daniels is also set to visit Cox’s Bazar and Madaripur districts, where she will engage in discussions on migration governance, climate-induced displacement, labour migration, protection, and humanitarian assistance.
The visit highlights ongoing collaboration between Bangladesh and the IOM to promote safe, orderly, and regular migration while addressing emerging challenges related to migration and displacement.
