In a commendable act of community service, members of the Bangladesh Ansar and Village Defence Party (VDP) have taken a unique initiative to ease long-standing public hardship in the haor region of Tahirpur upazila in Sunamganj.
Through voluntary labor, the members cleared a key road that had long been clogged with rotten water hyacinth, mud, and waste, restoring safe movement for local residents.
The initiative was carried out on Sunday under the direction of the Sunamganj district commandant and supervised by the Tahirpur upazila Ansar and VDP officer. The cleanup took place on the only connecting road linking Firozpur, Mahatabpur, and Mollikpur areas in Ward No. 3 of Badaghat union. Union team leader Shah Ali and Ansar commander Hazrat Ali led the effort.
Local residents said the road had remained unusable for a long time due to foul-smelling sludge, decayed vegetation, and accumulated waste, causing severe difficulties for students, farmers, women, and children. The situation worsened during the monsoon, increasing the risk of accidents.
With the removal of the debris and mud, normal movement has now been restored, bringing relief to the community. “Bangladesh Ansar and VDP are not only engaged in maintaining law and order but also stand by people through humanitarian efforts,” said Shah Ali, adding that such initiatives will continue in the future.
Residents praised the effort, noting that without waiting for government funding, the volunteers stepped in to address a pressing public need. They described the initiative as exemplary, saying it has significantly reduced long-standing suffering and strengthened public trust in the force.
