Students will be admitted to Class XI this academic year based on their SSC and equivalent examination results, with no separate admission tests, according to a proposal from the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee.
If approved by the Education Ministry, applications will again be accepted through a centralised online system, as in previous years. Admission will be determined based on students’ SSC scores and their preferred choice of colleges.
Professor Syed Akhtaruzzaman, chairman of the Dhaka Education Board and president of the Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee, confirmed the matter to bdnews24.com on Monday.
He said a draft of the Class XI admission policy has already been sent to the Secondary and Higher Education Division of the Education Ministry.
“There will be no major changes in the Class XI admission process this year. We have kept the existing system of admission based on results and marks, similar to last year.
We hope the Secondary and Higher Education Division will issue the admission policy before the SSC results are published on August 10,” he said.
After the BNP-led government took office, there were discussions about restoring admission tests for schools. This raised questions over whether Class XI admissions would also return to an examination-based system.
However, the committee’s proposal has recommended retaining the current result-based admission process.
The SSC and equivalent examination results are scheduled to be published on August 10. The publication was earlier planned for July 20 but was postponed due to delays in preparations by education boards.
Only students who pass the SSC and equivalent exams will be eligible for Class XI admission this year.
The admission schedule will also be revised following the delay in result publication. Although online applications were initially planned to begin on July 30, a new schedule has not yet been finalised.
Professor Akhtaruzzaman said the committee would finalise the dates for applications, result publication and other related activities within this week.
There are more than 2.6 million seats available in higher secondary colleges and madrasas across the country, while over 1.85 million students appeared in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations.
As a result, a significant number of Class XI seats are expected to remain vacant again this year.
However, colleges run by Christian missions, including Notre Dame College and Holy Cross College, will continue selecting students through admission tests in line with court directives.
