Girls have outperformed boys by a significant margin in the pass rate of this year’s Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent examinations.
The pass rate among female students was 66.68 percent, compared with 57.86 percent among male students. This means girls outperformed boys by 8.82 percentage points.
The statistics were released on Monday (August 10) following the publication of the results of the 2026 SSC and equivalent examinations.
The results were formally unveiled at 10am at a ceremony held at the Education Ministry’s conference room, where Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Haque Milan officially inaugurated the publication of the results.

A total of 1,829,485 students appeared for this year’s examinations, including 917,694 boys and 911,791 girls. Thus, the number of male candidates was 5,903 higher than the number of female candidates.
However, girls performed significantly better in terms of the number of students who passed. A total of 530,938 boys and 607,939 girls passed the examinations, meaning 77,001 more girls passed than boys.
Girls also outperformed boys in terms of GPA-5 results. A total of 52,780 boys and 63,896 girls secured GPA-5. The number of female students achieving the highest grade was therefore 11,116 higher than that of male students.
The results from the nine general education boards also showed girls ahead of boys across all three major groups.
In the science group, the pass rate was 77.39 percent among boys, compared with 83.70 percent among girls. In the humanities group, the pass rate was 41.14 percent for boys and 54.38 percent for girls.
In the business studies group, 59.98 percent of boys passed, compared with 69.92 percent of girls.
Thus, girls recorded higher pass rates than boys in all three groups. The widest gap was seen in the humanities group, where girls’ pass rate was 13.24 percentage points higher than that of boys.
Overall, the pass rate in this year’s SSC and equivalent examinations stood at 62.25 percent, down from 68.45 percent last year. The overall pass rate therefore fell by 6.20 percentage points in one year.
A total of 116,676 students secured GPA-5 this year, compared with 139,032 last year. The number of GPA-5 achievers thus declined by 22,356 from the previous year.
