The government on Monday transferred 254 Electrical and Mechanical Sub-Assistant Engineers of the Public Works Department (PWD) through a lottery-based posting system aimed at ensuring transparency and fairness in personnel management.

The lottery was held at the conference room of the Public Works Bhaban in Segunbagicha, Dhaka, under the supervision of the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.

Under the transfer order, 119 engineers were posted to Dhaka Division, 27 each to Rajshahi, Chattogram and Khulna divisions, 22 to Rangpur, 13 to Barishal, 11 to Mymensingh and 8 to Sylhet.

The lottery was conducted by Additional Secretary Md Sarwar Alam. PWD Additional Chief Engineer (Electrical and Mechanical) Ashraful Haque said the lottery-based transfer system would help promote transparency, neutrality and discipline in the department’s transfer process.

The PWD branch of the Diploma Engineers Association welcomed the initiative, saying the new system would ensure greater fairness and accountability in transfers.

Senior officials of the ministry and the Public Works Department, including Chief Engineer Md Khalekuzzaman Chowdhury, were present at the event.

The latest transfer follows the July 30 lottery-based posting of 767 Civil Sub-Assistant Engineers, as part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to make transfer and posting procedures more transparent.
