A writ petition has been filed with the High Court challenging the legality of the appointment of 265 Deputy Attorneys General (DAGs) and Assistant Attorneys General (AAGs) at the Attorney General’s Office.

The petition, filed by Supreme Court lawyer Dr Md Yunus Ali Akand, alleges that the appointments were made on political considerations instead of merit and professional qualifications.

It also seeks a court declaration barring political activities, including rallies, processions and the use of loudspeakers, in and around the Supreme Court premises.

The respondents include the Cabinet Secretary, the Law Secretary and other relevant authorities.

On July 30, the government appointed 86 Deputy Attorneys General and 179 Assistant Attorneys General after revoking all previous appointments under the Bangladesh Law Officers Order, 1972.
