The Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad on Wednesday observed July Uprising Day 2026 with a series of commemorative programmes.
The observance began at the Bangladesh Chancery Complex, where Bangladesh High Commissioner to Pakistan Md Iqbal Hossain Khan hoisted the national flag as the national anthem was played. Officials and staff of the High Commission, their family members, members of the Bangladeshi community and Pakistani nationals attended the ceremony.
A discussion programme was later held at the High Commission’s conference hall, beginning with the recitation of the Holy Quran. Participants observed a one-minute silence in memory of those who were killed during the July Uprising.
Messages from the President, the Prime Minister, the Foreign Minister and the State Minister for Foreign Affairs were read out, while a documentary on the July Uprising was also screened.
Officials of the High Commission, Hina Monsab Khan, Chairperson of the SAARC Chambers Women Entrepreneurs Council, and Ambassador Salahuddin Chowdhury addressed the programme.
Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner Iqbal Hossain Khan described August 5 as “a day of pride, victory and the restoration of democratic political rights” for people who cherish freedom and democracy.
He called on all stakeholders to work together to build state institutions free from discrimination and stressed the importance of further strengthening democratic institutions.
Speakers highlighted the decisive role played by students and ordinary citizens during the July Uprising, saying the best way to honour the martyrs would be to build a just, self-reliant, democratic and prosperous Bangladesh by ensuring political and economic empowerment, eliminating discrimination and promoting social justice.
The programme concluded with special prayers seeking eternal peace for those who lost their lives during the 2024 uprising, as well as continued peace and prosperity for Bangladesh.
