The Permanent Mission of Bangladesh to the United Nations in New York commemorated July Mass Uprising Day on Wednesday with a reception attended by permanent representatives, diplomats, senior UN officials and members of international organisations.
Speaking at the event, Bangladesh’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury, paid tribute to those who sacrificed their lives during the historic uprising, according to a press release.
He highlighted the enduring aspirations of the Bangladeshi people for democracy, justice, accountability and human dignity, noting that the July movement symbolised a collective resolve to build a more peaceful, inclusive and prosperous nation.
The ambassador also outlined the government’s “3R Strategy” — Recovery, Restoration and Reconstruction — aimed at stabilising the economy, rebuilding institutions and advancing sustainable development.
Reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to democratic governance and the principles of the UN Charter, he stressed the importance of strengthened international cooperation.
The programme featured a documentary on the July Mass Uprising, offering participants insight into its historical significance and role in shaping Bangladesh’s democratic journey.
