Foreign flights to resume at Osmani Airport after 8 yrs

Foreign airline operations are set to resume at Osmani International Airport in Sylhet after an eight-year hiatus, with Oman-based SalamAir launching direct flights between Sylhet and Muscat from September 1.

Osmani International Airport Director Hafiz Ahmed said SalamAir will initially operate three return flights a week on the Sylhet–Muscat route.

Authorities also expect several other foreign airlines to begin operating from the airport by December.

The resumption of foreign carrier services marks a significant milestone for Sylhet’s aviation sector and is expected to improve connectivity for expatriate Bangladeshis, particularly migrant workers and the large Sylheti diaspora in the Middle East.

The move comes as efforts continue to expand and modernise Osmani International Airport, positioning it as a regional aviation hub with enhanced passenger and cargo services.
