CHATTOGRAM: The University of Chittagong (CU) administration has banned flying drones on campus without prior permission following allegations that drones were used to film the university’s women’s residential halls.

The ban was announced in a notice issued at around 3:00 pm on Sunday and signed by the university’s proctor, Professor Md. Kamrul Hossain.

University sources said several content creators had recently flown drones over the campus to record videos, including footage of women’s residential halls. Female students reportedly raised objections to the filming. The administration imposed the ban after learning about the incident.

According to the notice, drones have frequently been flown without permission in various parts of the campus. In some cases, drones have also been operated over areas around women’s residential halls, raising concerns about campus security, discipline and the privacy of female students.

The notice stated that anyone wishing to fly a drone on campus must obtain prior permission from the Proctor’s Office and comply with applicable government regulations.

Legal action will be taken against anyone who violates the directive, the notice added.

The administration has urged all concerned, including teachers, students, officials, employees and visitors, to comply with the instructions.
