Imran Haider, Pakistan’s high commissioner to Bangladesh, and his wife, Naima Imran, were injured after a fire caused by an electrical short circuit at their official residence in Baridhara and have been admitted to hospital.
The incident occurred early Thursday morning when a fire reportedly broke out at around 4:55 am at the envoy’s residence in the diplomatic zone of Baridhara.
According to an official statement issued on Thursday night, the couple was taken to Continental Hospital in Gulshan at around 9:00 am and has since been receiving treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU).
Initial reports indicate that both suffered breathing difficulties after inhaling smoke from the fire. They are being treated under the supervision of Dr Amina Sultana.
The statement said both the high commissioner and his wife are currently in stable condition.
Details about the extent of the damage caused by the fire and how it was brought under control were not immediately available.
