Gold prices have risen sharply in Bangladesh, just one day after the latest price adjustment, with the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (BAJUS) raising the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 4,374 per bhori.
Under the new rate, the price of one bhori (11.664 grams) of 22-carat gold, including VAT, has been set at Tk 234,038.
BAJUS announced the new prices in a statement on Saturday (August 8), saying they would take effect from 10am the same day.
According to the statement, the price of locally sourced Tejabi gold (pure gold) has increased. Considering the overall market situation, BAJUS revised the prices of different grades of gold.
Under the new rates, 21-carat gold will cost Tk 223,541 per bhori, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk 191,931. Gold sold under the traditional system has been priced at Tk 156,822 per bhori.
Just a day earlier, on August 7, BAJUS had reduced the price of 22-carat gold by Tk 3,266 per bhori, setting its price at Tk 229,664, including VAT.
At that time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk 219,342 per bhori, 18-carat gold at Tk 188,374, and traditional-method gold at Tk 153,848. Those prices also took effect from 10am.
With Saturday’s adjustment, gold prices have now been revised 100 times in Bangladesh so far this year. Prices have been increased on 49 occasions, reduced on 50 occasions, while there has been one VAT adjustment.
