The government plans to establish a 400-acre industrial park in Bogura to meet rising demand from small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), Commerce, Industry and Textiles Minister Khandakar Abdul Muktadir said on Friday (August 8).
Speaking at a ceremony marking the assumption of office by the newly elected board of directors of the Bogura Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he said preliminary development work on the proposed park is expected to begin this winter.
Muktadir noted that Bogura has strong potential to emerge as a key industrial hub, particularly in the light engineering sector. “The existing BSCIC industrial estate is already full, while demand for new plots among SME entrepreneurs continues to grow,” he said.
“To address this, we have planned a new BSCIC industrial park on around 400 acres. We aim to move quickly and start initial work this winter,” he added.
The minister said the government is working to build the necessary infrastructure and create a business-friendly environment to accelerate industrialisation in the region.
He emphasised the need to improve productivity and reduce financing costs to make local industries more competitive. “High-interest loans make it difficult to run businesses. Lower financing costs and higher efficiency are essential to reduce production costs,” he said.
He also highlighted efforts to ensure easier access to energy, streamline gas connections, and expand opportunities for lower-cost financing for industrial entrepreneurs .
Beyond infrastructure, the proposed park will include facilities for technical training, skills development, and technical support services to help new industries grow sustainably.
Entrepreneurs investing in the park are expected to benefit from relatively low-interest loans under the government’s credit wholesaling scheme, he added.
Earlier, the minister visited the proposed site in Fapor Union under Bogura Sadar upazila to review preparations.
Road Transport and Bridges Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam inaugurated the chamber event, while State Minister for Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives Mir Shahe Alam attended as a special guest.
Bogura Chamber President MSM Atikur Rahman Badal delivered the welcome address, and newly elected board members were introduced at the programme.
