Science and Technology and Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology Minister Faqir Mahbub Anam has urged students to move beyond simply using technology and focus on research, innovation and human welfare.
He made the remarks as the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony of the national robotics festival ‘Robofusion 1.0’, organised by the University of Frontier Technology, Bangladesh (UFTB) at Kaliakoir in Gazipur on Saturday.
The minister said Bangladesh must prepare skilled professionals in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI) and other emerging technologies, urging young people to become innovators and problem-solvers rather than remaining technology consumers.
“Building a skilled workforce in robotics, AI and emerging technologies is highly critical for Bangladesh,” he said, stressing the need to use AI to create jobs and promote entrepreneurship among graduates.
Anam also issued a stern warning to companies that have received land allocations inside Hi-Tech Parks but have failed to use the plots or start operations.
He said administrative action would be taken against such companies and the unused plots would be reviewed and potentially reallocated to active investors, as many domestic and international companies are keen to invest in Bangladesh.
The event was chaired by UFTB Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Md Moktar Ali.
Gazipur-1 MP Md Mojibur Rahman, Reserved Women’s Seat-16 MP Sanjida Islam Tuli, ICT Division Secretary Md Mamunur Rashid Bhuiyan and other senior officials and industry representatives attended the programme.
Speakers also stressed the need to establish a permanent campus for UFTB. Gazipur Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Md Nurul Karim Bhuiyan assured that issues involving external power lines and land acquisition would be resolved quickly.
A technical panel discussion on robotics and AI was also held to provide career guidance to young technology enthusiasts.
