Bangladesh secured a convincing 4–0 victory over Syria in the sixth round of the Chess Olympiad in Samarkand, while the women’s team suffered a 1–3 defeat to Croatia.
In the Open section, Tahsin defeated Rodi Bakr, while Sakline beat International Master Alzaim Talal to complete Bangladesh’s clean sweep.
The women’s team managed two draws against Croatia. Woman FIDE Master Noshin Anjum drew with Woman FIDE Master Tihana Ivekovic, while Woman Candidate Master Nusrat Jahan Alo shared the point with Woman International Master Kristina Saric.
Bangladesh lost the other two games, with Woman International Master Wadifa Ahmed falling to FIDE Master Ena Cvitan and Woman Candidate Master Walijah Ahmed losing to Woman FIDE Master Lara Zagorac.
After six rounds, Bangladesh have collected eight points in the Open section, while the women’s team have six.
Tuesday (Sept 22) was the designated rest day at the Olympiad.
Bangladesh return to action on Wednesday (Sept 23) for the seventh round, with the Open team facing Georgia and the women’s team taking on Hong Kong, China.
