A first-year student of the Institute of Business Administration (IBA) at the University of Rajshahi has been airlifted to Dhaka after suffering a severe stroke.

The student, Zahidul Islam Saimon, was flown to the National Institute of Neurosciences and Hospital on Sunday at around 10:30am via air ambulance from a field adjacent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital.

Saimon fell critically ill on Saturday night while staying in his dormitory. According to classmates, he fell from his bed during sleep, after which his body suddenly became rigid. Initially unaware of the seriousness of the situation, they rushed him to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital, where he was later transferred to the ICU on doctors’ advice.

A fellow student said doctors later confirmed that Saimon had suffered a stroke, adding that he had experienced similar incidents twice before. Due to limited facilities for advanced treatment and surgery in Rajshahi, doctors recommended his immediate transfer to Dhaka.

Vice-Chancellor Faridul Islam said the university administration promptly arranged ICU support upon learning of the situation. Following medical advice, they decided to transfer him urgently to Dhaka. An air ambulance was used to avoid delays and minimize risks associated with road travel.

He added that arrangements have been made to ensure advanced treatment at the specialized hospital in the capital and requested prayers for the student’s swift recovery.
