Police have arrested one person in connection with the alleged gang rape of a 14-year-old girl in Sarail upazila of Brahmanbaria, while five other suspects remain at large.

A case was filed against six people at Sarail Police Station on Saturday night. The girl is currently receiving treatment at Brahmanbaria General Hospital, a 250-bed facility.

According to the case statement and the victim’s family, the incident occurred on October 7 when the girl was heading from her village, Bariura in Noagaon Union, to a local madrasa to attend a religious gathering.

The complaint alleges that six men from the same village forcibly took her away in an autorickshaw to an isolated location beside a river. Three of them allegedly raped her, while the other three allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.

The suspects allegedly left her near her home at around 11pm and threatened to kill her if she disclosed the incident.

The girl reportedly informed her family several days later. Her father took her to Brahmanbaria General Hospital on October 15 and subsequently filed the case.

Sarail Police Station Officer-in-Charge Manzur Kader Bhuiyan confirmed that a case had been registered against six accused. He said police conducted a drive that night and arrested one suspect, identified as Bahar. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining accused.

Hospital Superintendent Dr Ratan Kumar Dhali said the girl was admitted several days after the alleged incident, which could affect the availability of forensic evidence. Samples have been collected and sent for testing, he added.
