Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on Sunday visited the grave of the late Hefazat-e-Islam ameer Allama Shah Ahmad Shafi at Al-Jamiatul Ahlia Darul Ulum Moinul Islam Madrasa in Hathazari, Chattogram.
The prime minister reached the madrasa premises at around 5:50pm and paid his respects at Shah Ahmad Shafi’s grave. He stood beside the grave, recited Fateha and prayed for the eternal peace of the deceased.
Finance and Planning Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, State Minister for Land and Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, Prime Minister’s Defence Adviser ATM Shamsul Islam, Additional Press Secretary of the Prime Minister Atikur Rahman Rumon, and madrasa principal Maulana Khalil Ahmad Qureshi were present.
After visiting the grave, the madrasa principal accompanied the prime minister to the second floor of the institution, where he exchanged greetings with senior Islamic scholars.
As Tarique Rahman left the madrasa, students standing in rows on the field greeted him. The prime minister shook hands with them before departing.
Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman held a courtesy meeting with Hefazat-e-Islam Ameer Allama Shah Muhibullah Babunagari at Al-Jamiatul Islamia Azizul Ulum Babunagari Madrasa in Fatikchhari.
The meeting took place on Sunday afternoon, followed by a brief exchange of views between the two leaders.
The prime minister arrived in Fatikchhari from Banshkhali by helicopter at around 3:20pm. After landing at Pelagazi Dighi field, he was welcomed by local leaders and activists.
He then travelled by road to Babunagari Madrasa. Thousands of people stood along both sides of the road to greet him. Upon his arrival at the madrasa, students expressed their enthusiasm and greeted the prime minister, who waved back and exchanged greetings with them.
