Judge killed as car hits parked truck

A judge was killed and a private car driver was injured when the car crashed into the rear of a truck parked by the roadside in Jamalpur Sadar upazila on Monday morning.

The deceased was identified as AKM Samiul Haque, 27, who was serving as a Civil Judge at the Islampur court in Jamalpur. He was the son of AKM Fazlul Haque of Netrokona Sadar upazila.

The accident occurred in the Lahirikandi Bazar area on the Jamalpur-Mymensingh highway early Monday (August 10).

According to locals and police, a speeding private car heading towards Jamalpur rammed into the rear of a truck parked on the roadside near Lahirikandi Bazar. The front of the car was badly mangled in the crash.

Samiul, who was travelling in the car, died on the spot. Local residents rescued the injured driver and took him to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Nazmus Sakib, officer-in-charge of Jamalpur Sadar Police Station, said the accident occurred in the early hours of Monday.

The body was recovered and sent to a hospital. Police are investigating the incident.
