Opposition Leader and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqure Rahman has alleged that Rangpur is being deprived of development because Jamaat-e-Islami won a larger number of seats in the region.
“The people of Rangpur will not accept this. Do not stretch out your hands or step forward again to take away people’s rights. The consequences will not be good,” he said.
Shafiqure Rahman made the remarks while addressing a public rally as the chief guest at the Bonarpara Kazi Azhar Ali High School field in Saghata, Gaibandha, on Monday (August 10).
He warned that those who go against the people of the country would not be able to remain in Bangladesh.
“The people of this country will no longer accept interference from Delhi,” he said.
The opposition leader said young people had learned to protest and accused the BNP of betraying the nation after coming to power through its campaign for a “Yes” vote.
“Those who campaigned for ‘Yes’ and are now saying ‘No’ will one day disappear from this country,” he said, adding that no one who ignored the people’s verdict had survived in the past and no one would survive in the future.
He also alleged that corruption, extortion and looting had begun across the country.
“We must stop the hands of extortionists and corrupt people,” he said, adding that he was ready to take to the streets “not once, but a hundred times” for the country.
Criticising the killing of two Shibir activists, Shafiqure Rahman said, “We do not want any more mothers to lose their children because of a lust for power. Do not come here to provoke conflicts.”
