Former Chief Justice A B M Khairul Haque has secured bail in the final case pending against him, clearing the legal way for his release from prison.

The High Court on Monday granted him six months’ bail in an attempted murder case filed with Banani Police Station in Dhaka.

A bench comprising Justice K M Zahid Sarwar and Justice Sheikh Abu Taher passed the order.

With the latest order, Khairul Haque has now obtained bail in all seven cases in which he had been shown arrested, according to reports.

His lawyers said there is no longer any legal impediment to his release.

Khairul Haque was arrested from his Dhanmondi residence on July 24 last year.

He was subsequently shown arrested in several cases, including those related to killings during the July mass uprising, alleged manipulation of a caretaker government-related verdict and a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission.

Earlier, the Appellate Division upheld his bail in five cases, while the High Court subsequently granted him bail in additional cases.

The latest bail order came in the Banani case, which had kept him in custody despite the earlier bail orders.
