Former chief justice ABM Khairul Haque has been shown arrested in a fresh case, delaying his release despite securing bail in eight cases.
On Wednesday, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Arifur Rahman approved a police petition to show Haque arrested in a Banani Police Station case filed over attempted murder and explosives charges.
According to prosecution official SI Moktar Hossain, Haque was not produced before the court. Instead, the hearing was held virtually, after which the court granted the police application.
His lawyers have since filed a bail petition in the latest case, with a hearing scheduled for later in the day.
Reacting to the development, Haque’s lawyer Monayem Nabi Shahin said, “Every time he secures bail in one case, he is shown arrested in another.
Today he was shown arrested in the ninth case. We don’t know when he will finally be released. At this rate, we’re waiting for the cases to reach a century.
